Upcoming Android Tactics RPGs to Watch in 2026
The best new tactics RPGs on Android in 2026 share four traits: real grid combat you control, a turn system with depth, monetization that's honest about its odds, and respect for your time. Apex and Abyss — free, available now on Google Play — was built around exactly those.
"Upcoming Android RPG" covers a lot of ground, from auto-battlers to full tactics. If what you actually want is a tactics RPG — the Final Fantasy Tactics / Tactics Ogre kind — here's what separates a great one from a dressed-up slot machine, and one you can play right now.
What to look for this year
- Real grid combat you control. Movement on a board where position, height, and facing change outcomes — not a lane, not an idle auto-battler that plays itself.
- A turn system with depth. Speed, initiative, or charge-time that you can manipulate, so the timeline is a resource, not a wait.
- Honest monetization. If it has gacha, are the drop rates published and is pity visible? Are there ads jammed into battle? Can you buy your way past difficulty?
- Respect for your time. Free-to-play that doesn't gate the fun behind stamina walls or force auto-battle.
- Content that lasts. Builds, branching skills, and a reason to come back — not three fights and a paywall.
Where Apex and Abyss lands
Apex and Abyss is a free tactical RPG roguelite for Android, and it was designed against that checklist:
- Grid combat: a 12×12 board where charge-time turn order and positioning decide fights.
- Depth: 200 themed floors, 25 heroes, 50+ branching skills, 63 monster types, per-run variety (it's a roguelite).
- Honest gacha: published drop rates and on-screen pity, no ads in battle, difficulty never paywalled.
- Your time: stamina recharges free, and manual control is the default.
It's live on Google Play now, free to download.
